CAIRO (Reuters) - Egyptians have staged one of their biggest protests yet insisting President Hosni Mubarak step down immediately and ignoring a government plan to transfer power.

By appointing Suleiman, part of a shake-up of the cabinet in an attempt to appease the masses of protesters and retain his own grip on the presidency, Mubarak has once again shown his knack for devilish shrewdness. Suleiman has long been favoured by the US government for his ardent anti-Islamism, his willingness to talk and act tough on Iran - and he has long been the CIA’s main man in Cairo.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The United States on Tuesday set out four steps Cairo must take to end Egypt's crisis, telling its ally to stop harassing protesters and immediately repeal an emergency law allowing detention without charge.

Speaking during the second sermon, the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution referred to the recent events in North Africa, especially Tunisia and Egypt, as very important and described them as a real earthquake. "If the Egyptian people manage to continue their movement with the help of God, they will cause an irreparable failure for America and the Zionist regime in the region." His Eminence referred to the increasing concerns of the Zionist regime about the developments in Egypt and reiterated: "The Zionists know better than anybody else what great events will happen in the region if Egypt stops supporting them. These events will result in realizing the prophecy of our magnanimous Imam."
